New, Two, the 2004 KCAI faculty biennial exhibition features new work, ranging in media, by eight recently appointed faculty members at the Kansas City Art Institute. Site-specific installations and individual works incorporated video, sound, fiber, photography, painting, printmaking, and performance.
Artists include: Laura Berman, Rebecca Dolan, Russell Ferguson, Andrea Flamini, Carolyn Kallenborn, Brett Reif, DeAnna Skedel, and Michael Wickerson.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a series of noon-time presentations at the Artspace (Artspace: TNT Fridays) highlight specific areas of study and research by recently appointed liberal arts faculty members, Dr. Maria Elena Buszek and Dr. Suzanne Gott. Dr. Buszek will discuss her publication, pin-up Grrrls: Feminism, sexuality, and popular culture on September 24, and Dr. Gott presents a discussion entitled Asante Funerals: The Art of West African Performance on October 15.
For generous support of the 2003-2004 exhibition series at the Artspace, the Kansas City Art Institute gratefully acknowledges the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency, and the H&R Block Foundation.
