Making Histories
02.07.2015 - 04.04.2015
Making Histories explores a recent impulse in contemporary art to recall the past and revisit history. Connections between the past and the present are revealed through the artists’ focus on global events during the twentieth century in works that reimagine, reenact, and refigure what has come before and consider the role of collective memory and historical consciousness.
Organized by the Artspace, the exhibition is co-curated by Raechell Smith, Artspace Director and Dr. David Cateforis, Professor of Art History at the University of Kansas.
Artists:
Lene Berg (Norway), Chen Shaoxiong (China), Jeremy Deller (Britain), Mary Reid Kelley with Patrick Kelley (US), Anri Sala (Albania), Anna Von Mertens (US), and Hank Willis Thomas (US)
Opening Reception: Friday, February 6, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
