An artist and a chef walk into a kitchen

Twelve artists and chefs will collaborate to awaken, startle, and thrill all of your senses at ArtFare, a spectacular event hosted by the Vanderslice Committee, happening from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 at the 1900 Building. ArtFare Honorary Chairs are Christy & Bill Gautreaux and Christina & Michael Corvino. “ArtFare is a highly anticipated annual arts and culinary event that pairs artists and chefs in an inspired spirit of collaboration to benefit and support the restoration of Vanderslice Hall,“ said Vanderslice President Courtney Wasson. Lon Lane and Pam Gradinger have paired innovative Kansas City chefs with painters, ceramicists, and other artists, including many KCAI alumni and faculty. Each chef will create delectable fare based on the artist’s work. Guests will enjoy the artfully prepared food, cocktails, and a silent auction.  Marcus Cain’s (‘98 Printmaking) artwork Sequin variant 15 inspired Chef Linda Duerr of The Restaurant at 1900 to create a three-fish crudo with shingles of salmon, tuna, and halibut over an avocado yogurt dressing. Jedel Visiting Artists Presents Beili Liu

Renowned artist Beili Liu will share her installation and performance projects at the Jedel Visiting Artist Lecture on Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m. in Epperson Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. During her talk Call and Response: Material Narratives, Beili will touch upon subjects of home, cultural memory, migration, threads, and mending, loss, and resilience, social and environmental concerns. “My site-responsive installations and performances are rooted in the essence and history of a place, and negotiate personal, cultural, and environmental concerns. I question the boundary between vulnerability and power and explore resilience, healing, and hope through humble, accumulated labor, “ she said in her artist’s statement.  KCAI Sculpture Department hosts the annual Jedel Visiting Artist Lecture to engage students in creating new artworks that enhance their educational experience with contemporary ideas. Underwritten by the Jedel Family Foundation, the program brings acclaimed artists to KCAI and Kansas City for an annual talk and to engage with students and faculty.
