Central Shop
The Central Shop is an interdepartmental support facility for use by the students, faculty and staff. It’s equipped with woodworking machines and tools, including table saws, bandsaws, miter saws, jointer, planer and drill presses, as well as a supply of hand power tools for use in the shop and for check out. The Central Shop has recently expanded into the digital realm with the addition of CNC technology.
All users of the Central Shop are required to attend a safety orientation. Foundation students complete a multi-week orientation and project as part of the School of the Foundation Year curriculum. Transfer students attend an intensive one session orientation held at the beginning of each semester.

8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 6 – 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday
8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. only on Friday* (during the spring semester)
1 – 5 p.m. Saturday & Sunday
* The shop is closed on Fridays during the fall semester.
Beals Studios
Located next to the Volker Building, Beals Studios is a fabrication laboratory in which students have access to cutting-edge emerging technologies, as well as staff to instruct and mentor them on their capabilities and operation. The lab contains a teaching and design work area with powerful computers boasting an array of modeling and design software. The teaching area also contains an 84” SurfaceHub which the lab computers can swiftly project to.
Beals Studios houses Ten 3D printers that can print in a range of plastics and rubbers — Two laser systems with a variety of features including a fourth axis, autofocusing, and metal engraving — Two CNC mills — One vacuum former — One desktop water jet cutter — One digital loom that assists in weaving complex weave structures and images. Beals Studios is open to all students, faculty, and staff. It is a place of collaboration, exploration, and discovery.

Print Center
KCAI faculty, students and staff have access to a digital Print Center located in the KCAI Underground. It provides a variety of printing services and/or digital output. Submit online at kcai.edu/printcenter-orderform.
Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. (closed from 12pm-1pm for lunch)
There may be occasional interruptions for staff meetings and other duties.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: 12 – 5 p.m.
Media Center
The Media Center, located on the second floor of the East Building, is KCAI’s centralized audio/visual checkout facility. It maintains a varying inventory of audio/visual equipment to support classroom instruction and student work. It houses a full-service shooting studio that can be reserved for photographic and video projects requiring a light-controlled environment. In addition, cameras, tripods, lighting kits and other photo and video equipment are available for off-premises checkout.

Art Supply Store
The Art Supply Store, located in the KCAI Underground, is the one stop shop for all things an art student might need. The Store carries a full line of art and design supplies as well as materials specifically requested by faculty for classes. In addition to its comprehensive selection of art materials, the Store also sells an array of convenience items and other KCAI-specific merchandise.
If you need to send a letter or package, the store is also a full service mail center with both USPS and UPS services.
