The Painting Department invites you WEDNESDAY 2/26 at 11am to the Lester Goldman gallery for the reception of The Girls Are Girling, curated by Junie Brown. Pink snacks will be provided!
The Girls Are Girling is an attempt to define femininity. Whether it be the body, the spaces we exist in, or the objects that we interact with, femininity and the idea of being a “girl” is subjective. The show is a collection of multiple representations of “Girling,” from collage to textile to portraiture. It creates a space where femininity is not only highlighted but also celebrated in all of its forms, both socially accepted and those labeled as “improper.” Although you don't have to be a girl to participate in the act of "Girling," the show focuses on mostly female artists and subjects.
+ ALSO OPENING in the gallery along the Oak Street window is Mix and Remix>> The Painting elective class In Translation: Abstraction and Process and the Foundation Workshop Vibrations of Form collaborated to interpret music, notation and mark making strategies. Each of the students developed rules and processes as a parallel movement with sound. These works are remixes of those initial moves - a recalibration of the first tracks, and a reconsideration of the relationship between sense experiences.
