Graphic Design graduate Sydney Kincaid recently opened the Parkville Needlepoint House, located in downtown Parkville, MO.
Sydney Kincaid (‘19 Graphic Design), a native of Parkville, has opened a new creative business in the city’s downtown district. Kincaid recently launched The Parkville Needlepoint House, converting a long-vacant pink house into a retail shop and gathering space dedicated to needlepoint, a form of hand embroidery stitched through woven canvas. She signed the lease for the property in November, received the keys by Dec. 1, and opened the store just over a month later after completing renovations with help from friends and family.
Kincaid developed an interest in needlepoint through her work with Ampersand Design Studio, which worked with a local needlepoint business client. Inspired to pursue the craft and seeing growing interest in it, she decided to start her own shop in Parkville. The store carries canvases and materials sourced from small artists and businesses and also plans to develop in-house designs. Kincaid hosts a weekly open stitch club on Saturdays and said the goal is to create a place where beginners and experienced stitchers can gather and learn the craft.
The business opened Jan. 17 and has drawn steady traffic from local residents and visitors, with more than 375 customers in the first three weeks, according to Kincaid. She said the shop also reflects a personal effort to move forward following the 2025 death of close friend Graham Hoffman, a firefighter-paramedic with the Kansas City Fire Department who was killed in the line of duty. Kincaid said the store represents both a new entrepreneurial step and a community-focused creative space in downtown Parkville.
