How Letters Get Their Shape: Alphabet in Motion presents works surrounding the creation of the book, Alphabet in Motion, by designer, Kelli Anderson. The exhibition is one element of Anderson's visit to KCAI, which also includes a public lecture and special workshops with KCAI students. The exhibition, presented in partnership with the KCAI faculty Collaborative Practice Committee, invites viewers to experience Anderson's practice, form their own letters from templates, see her collaborations with KCAI students, and hear more about her research and process.

"Type contains the history of our world in microcosm: these tiny shapes project the thought, mood, and values of their era. But where do a letter's pungent, transporting associations come from? To answer this question, Alphabet in Motion prods at technology, culture, and our own inventory of associations, memories, and imagination. The book traces how hands, human perception, and tools shaped the personality of type. This exhibition shows how the book itself took shape." - Kelli Anderson
