Material World
09.19.2024 - 11.09.2024
Material World foregrounds a rich interconnectedness between the natural world and artistic practice in a dynamic group exhibition, revealing a broad range of conceptual and material approaches that draw inspiration from nature and the world around us.
Throughout the exhibition, we encounter traces of the unique relationship between each of the 16 artists and the natural world – in drawings, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, installations, community engagement, ceremony, and material investigations.
The Artspace is pleased to kick off the Fall 2024 season of exhibitions and public programs with an opening reception on:
Friday, September 20 | 6 PM - 8 PM
Material World presents emblematic works by celebrated regional artists Dora Agbas, ATAKPA and the Fugitive Griot, Elaine Buss, Hadley Clark, Rena Detrixhe, Laura Frank, Jillian Youngbird Guthrie, Hùng Lê, Karen McCoy, Jarrett Mellenbruch, Sean Nash, Cydney Ross, Kirsten Taylor, Rebecca Vaughan, and Casey Whittier.
A lively series of weekly convenings and public programs led by participating artists will accompany the exhibition, hosted at the Artspace and beyond.
