Ingram’s Magazine Recognizes Populous Leader Kelly Holton (‘07 Graphic Design) Among Top 2026 Women Executives in Kansas City
Kelly Holton ('07 Graphic Design), Senior Principal at the global design firm Populous, has been recognized by Ingram’s Magazine as one of the 2026 WeKC Women Executives Kansas City honorees. The prestigious annual award celebrates female leaders who combine strategic insight with a deep commitment to reshaping commerce and community. This year, Holton is one of 19 remarkable women honored in the 2026 class for their exceptional achievements, foundational values, and dedication to elevating the local business landscape.
For Holton, her career is defined by an instinct to capture the spirit of a place and translate a brand's identity into an immersive environment. After arriving in 2003 to attend the Kansas City Art Institute, her early work in exhibit design taught her how to structure information so people can physically step inside a story. Today, she brings that same focus on authenticity to Populous, where she has spent the past 13 years shaping fan experiences at a massive scale.
Holton has helped iconic venues and brands tell their stories, with a portfolio featuring historic projects like Wrigley Field and Seattle's net-zero Climate Pledge Arena. Currently, her influence is helping set the global stage right at home, as she plays a pivotal role in Kansas City's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. She has been instrumental in designing the massive FIFA Fan Festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, as well as KCHouse, an immersive hub meant to showcase the region's innovation and hospitality to the world.
Holton’s rise to leadership organically evolved through her exposure to these diverse, large-scale projects and her commitment to caring for clients and teams alike. She intentionally fosters an inclusive culture at Populous, emphasizing that because they design for everyone, they must have diverse perspectives at the table. This collaborative environment reflects the broader, exciting shifts within her industry. With women's sports gaining massive momentum, Holton finds the increasing presence of women in leadership deeply inspiring, and her WeKC recognition perfectly highlights her ongoing, lasting impact on Kansas City’s cultural and economic identity.
