The KC Streetcar Authority has once again partnered with the Kansas City Art Institute MICRO Agency class, led by Professor of Illustration David Terrill, to create the official poster for the Riverfront Extension Grand Opening.

As part of a competitive process, twelve students developed original designs, with the artwork of Illustration junior Lauren Jiménez selected as the commemorative piece for this historic occasion. The poster celebrates the KC Streetcar line, which includes a stop at Kansas City Art Institute, extending all the way to the brand-new Riverfront stops.

The $62 million, 0.7-mile Riverfront Extension expands the KC Streetcar line, linking the River Market to Berkley Riverfront and creating new connections between neighborhoods, businesses, and destinations. The project also marks the debut of the CPKC Pavilion, the new terminus of the extension.

Designed as an iconic end-of-line experience, the pavilion features a striking metal canopy, sculptural lighting, enhanced boarding and waiting areas, and three real-time arrival displays. Decorative concrete finishes throughout the space create a welcoming gateway to Berkley Riverfront.

The celebration will begin with an Official Grand Opening Ceremony on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverfront streetcar stop. The event will feature remarks from representatives of the Federal Transit Administration, Quinton Lucas, City Council members, state and local elected officials, project partners, and community stakeholders.
