Laedan “DINKC” Galicia (’13 Illustration) has been named a featured artist for the 13th annual Art in the Loop project in Kansas City
Alum Laedan “DINKC” Galicia (’13 Illustration) has been selected as a featured visual artist for the 13th annual Art in the Loop project in Kansas City. Chosen from a competitive pool of over 135 applicants, Galicia will present an installation titled We Are Home. His piece directly responds to the 2026 exhibition theme of "Home," which challenged local creatives to explore the people, places, and dreams that serve as catalysts for personal evolution. From May through November, Galicia's vibrant artwork will be showcased publicly alongside other artists at KC Streetcar shelters, on a streetcar vehicle, and within Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park.
For Galicia, the theme of "Home" is especially fitting for his current artistic and personal journey. Growing up as a Mexican-American navigating life between Kansas City and Mexico, his aesthetic was heavily shaped by a myriad of street art, his dual cultures, and a deep appreciation for Dia de los Muertos. This unique blend led to his signature DINKC brand, defined by intricate line work, bold commercial illustrations, and a creative fascination with skulls. After spending seven successful years living and working in New York and Denver, and showcasing his art in Chicago, Tucson, Philadelphia, Mexico and the UK, Galicia has established a brick-and-mortar studio and gallery in Kansas City to expand his personal brand while curating opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs.
The Art in the Loop Foundation, in partnership with the KC Streetcar, serves as a dynamic outdoor exhibition that brings temporary public art and live performances to the heart of downtown. The community is invited to celebrate Galicia and his fellow artists at the 2026 Art in the Loop Kick-Off event. The free, public celebration will take place on Wednesday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Public Library - Central Library, offering attendees a chance to meet the creatives shaping this year's downtown landscape.
