The Central Shop is an interdepartmental support facility for use by the students, faculty and staff. It’s equipped with woodworking machines and tools, including table saws, bandsaws, miter saws, jointer, planer and drill presses, as well as a supply of hand power tools for use in the shop and for check out. The Central Shop has recently expanded into the digital realm with the addition of CNC technology.
All users of the Central Shop are required to attend a safety orientation. Foundation students complete a multi-week orientation and project as part of the School of the Foundation Year curriculum. Transfer students attend an intensive one session orientation held at the beginning of each semester.

David T. Beals III Studios for Art & Technology
Located next to the Volker Building, Beals Studios is a fabrication laboratory in which students have access to cutting-edge emerging technologies as well as staff to instruct and mentor them on their capabilities and operation. The lab contains a teaching and design-work area, with powerful computers equipt an array of modeling and design software. The teaching area also contains an 84” SurfaceHub that is connected to any computer in the lab.
In terms of output, Beals Studios houses Ten 3D printers that can print in a range of plastics, resins, and porcelain; Three laser systems with a variety of features including a fourth axis, autofocusing, and metal engraving; Two CNC mills capable of milling a great range of materials including plastics, objects in 360, and non-ferrous metals; One digital loom that assists you in weaving complex weave structures and images.
Beals Studios is open to all students, faculty, and staff. It is a place of collaboration, exploration, and discovery.

Work study Application: This is the form to apply to be part of Beals Studios Workstudy team. It may be filled out at any point in time.
The Media Center, located on the second floor of the East Building, is KCAI’s centralized audio/visual checkout facility. It maintains a varying inventory of audio/visual equipment to support classroom instruction and student work. It houses a full-service shooting studio that can be reserved for photographic and video projects requiring a light-controlled environment. In addition, cameras, tripods, lighting kits and other photo and video equipment are available for off-premises checkout.

KCAI faculty, students and staff have access to a digital Print Center located in Room 103 of the Irving Building. It provides a variety of printing services and/or digital output.
Monday-Thursday: 8:30am – 8:00 pm (minus lunch hour from 12pm-1pm)
There may be occasional interruptions for staff meetings and other duties.
Friday: 8:30am – 5:00 pm (minus lunch hour from 12pm-1pm)
Sunday: 5:00 pm -9:00 pm
The Art Store, located in the basement of the Student Living Center, is the one stop shop for all things an art student might need. The Store carries a full line of art and design supplies as well as materials specifically requested by faculty for classes. In addition to its comprehensive selection of art materials, the Store also sells an array of convenience items and other KCAI-specific merchandise.
If you need to send a letter or package, the store is also a full service mail center with both USPS and UPS services.
Saturday: CLOSED (special hours for Parents Day and Portfolio Day, etc.)
