KCAI buildings and design projects rack up awards

KCAI buildings, design projects, and architecture history book have recently been recognized as the best of the best in 2021 regional competitions.

At the Capstone Architectural Awards, both Barbara Marshall Residence Hall and Paul and Linda DeBruce Hall were honored for excellence in architectural design.

Architects Hufft, SK Design Group, PMA and Henderson Engineering, and McCownGordon Construction shared the honors for the modern, light-filled DeBruce Hall, which houses our Liberal Arts programs, Entrepreneurial Minor, and Ronald Cattelino Center for Student Services. The award for Barbara Marshall Residence Hall, the center for student life on campus, was shared by Helix Architectural & Design, Christopher Carvell Architects, SK Design, Henderson Engineers, Bob D. Campbell & Co., and JE Dunn.

The brand identity, View Book, and three additional KCAI projects were standouts at the recent AIGA KC A16 Design Awards where our design agency DMH received the Jurors Choice for the brand.

Juror DJ Stout called the brand out for the dynamic way the KCAI logo moves around the grid. “The use of the grid, each square representing pieces of art, to frame artworks and design is brilliant. The primary colors for the brand are beautiful, too and feel just right to me. This was by far the smartest, most satisfying entry in the competition in my not so humble opinion,” he said.

KCAI projects received the following awards:
KCAI Viewbook, Admissions Suite, and Brand Identity were awarded to DMH
Seeking Plural Narratives – KCAI and SUNY Buffalo Student collaboration – Assistant Professor Lisa Maione and Junior Graphic Design Students
KCAI Architecture and Innovation 1885-2020 – Awarded to ISOM Collective and Cydney Millstein

Welcome Back, Students!

Here we go again!  This isn’t the way that we hoped to start the new year, but the highly contagious Omicron is bringing new challenges to our campus community. With precautions in place, we’re starting the semester cautiously optimistic. Our COVID protocols have been designed with one goal in mind – keeping our campus community safe.  Some of the spring 2022 guidelines include: Masks are required indoors on campus. Each student was given a K95 mask at the beginning of the semester.  KCAI strongly encourages everyone to get vaccinated and boosted.  We will continue to offer free vaccine and booster clinics for our community.  Review all the current Covid protocols at https://kcai.edu/covid19_updates/. Our current plan is to host two in-person graduation — one for 2022 graduates and another for the 2020 and 2021 graduates who weren’t able to graduate in person, due to the pandemic.  Both ceremonies will be on Saturday, May 14 and more details will be shared soon.  We know this hasn’t been easy, and we thank you for your diligence and patience. With your help, we’ve been able to navigate this ongoing , ever changing pandemic. We’ll continue to meet regularly with the  Kansas City. Missouri Health read more…
