School for Continuing and Professional Studies enters new partnership
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 11, 2013) — The Kansas City Art Institute’s School for Continuing and Professional Studies has entered into a partnership with The Firehouse: Center for Creative Excellence in Kearney, Mo., to begin offering art camps for children and art classes for adults this summer in the newly renovated space.
“We believe this is a perfect fit for us,” said Tabitha Schmidt, director of CPS. “This collaboration enables us to introduce the Kansas City Art Institute into a community that values the arts and is supportive of the partnership.  We are excited about the possibilities.”
The CPS classes will be on the north side of the building in soon-to-be remodeled garage bays. This space will feature two studios and a computer lab with iMacs.
While course offerings will vary throughout the year, some of the classes that will be available when the space opens are Discover Painting, Discover Drawing, Claymation Movies, Digital Photography, Computer Animation, Cartooning and Comics and Silk Shibori Scarves.
“I wanted this to be the footprint to revitalize an arts and culture district in downtown Kearney,” Jenny Hayes, executive director of The Firehouse, said of bringing KCAI to the community. “KCAI was the logical choice because of its long, successful history of providing art education to all ages in a wide range of mediums.”
The Firehouse is located at 106 S. Jefferson St. This will be the third location where these classes are offered, including KCAI’s Main Campus at 4415 Warwick Blvd. and North Campus at 1801 N.W. Platte Road in Riverside, Mo.
