A curatorial panel of national and regional awards advisors selected the artists following studio visits with 10 semifinalists from an original pool of 125 applicants.

All three artists have challenged themselves in creating a new body of work for this exhibition,” said Artspace Director Raechell Smith. “Marcus’ paintings have become more complex in their interplay of figurative references and abstraction. Caine will present “Portraits of Thought” a series of creative workshops exploring the space that exists between verbal and visual communication and comprehension in association with the Kansas Art Therapy Association. Anne has created pairings in her new work, including a monumental scroll installation. Luke’s work will include sculptures, installations and collages made of found materials and media, mined from Kansas City and his surroundings.”

Since 1997, The Charlotte Street Foundation has challenged, nurtured and empowered thousands of artists, distributed more than $775,000 in awards and grants to artists and their projects and connected individual artists to each other and to the greater Kansas City community. Charlotte Street – with its community of artists – strives to be a primary catalyst in making Kansas City a vibrant, creative metropolis, alive with collaboration, passion, ideas and surprise.
